Text Box: Mabel's Bonnets - Catherine c. 1530
The gable headdress terminates on a line with the mouth.  the hair is not revealed, but secured and hidden by a padded embroidered hand, forming a turban, to which the coif is fastened.  The ends of the embroidered band of the hood (with a single central vent) are looped up and pinned on top of the hood.  One side of the hood can be twisted and secured to the top back part of the headdress with the other side remaining loose to fall over the shoulder.  A flared stiffened, crescent-shaped form (billement), handsomely bordered, with an edging of metal work set with jewels, is worn on top of the hood, and set back from the stiffened front edge.
